About me

My name is Rick Rodriguez. I’ve been working in the yachting industry since 2015. I’ve worked as crew on yachts ranging in sizes from 40ft to 180ft, both power and sail. My girlfriend and I started Contigo Yacht Charter in late 2019 just after my dad unexpectedly passed away while sailing in the Dominican Republic with my mother aboard their 45ft catamaran “Contigo” (which means, “with you” in English). Our aim was to be closer to home in The Bahamas / Florida area to support my mom while offering luxury crewed charters in The Bahamas. Despite the challenges from Covid-19 we were successful in kicking off our charter business, and with our experience on superyachts and knowledge of the Bahamas, we quickly gained a lot of popularity with our guests. About a year after we began our business the real sailor in me began to resurface. I got a burning desire to get my own boat and sail back to the romantic islands of the South Pacific, and perhaps around the world. In July of 2021 I bought my current boat, a 1976 Kelly Peterson 44 that I appropriately named “Raindancer”. To share photos and stories of my travels aboard Raindancer I started a blog called DistantSeas.

Since leaving the Bahamas I’ve been passing on my charter requests to various charter companies in Florida and The Bahamas, but quickly realized that what I was really doing was being a friendly charter broker without earning any commission. That’s when I decided to make the transition to being a charter yacht broker and merge Contigo Yacht Charter with my blog under one entity, DistantSeas. Our goal is to continue sailing around the world while building connections within the yachting industry. We use our knowledge and experience to find the perfect match for your yachting holiday.

What makes us unique? We are a small operation, and when you call us we are likely to be working on our own boat projects, or sailing from one island to another. We know as well as anyone what it’s really like to be on a boat, big or small, formal or casual. We know the details that can make or break a charter and how to look out for them. Most importantly, we simply take great pride in being good, honest people, and guarantee that you’ll be satisfied with our service. We may even invite you to come sailing aboard Raindancer!
